About Us

The Capitol Hill Cluster School is a Washington, DC public school which serves 1100 children from age 3 though 8th grade.

Set on three campuses on historic Capitol Hill -- Peabody Early Childhood Center, Watkins Elementary School, and Stuart Hobson Middle School, the Cluster provides a cohesive educational philosophy that strongly emphasizes literacy, independent thinking, and a love for learning.

Academic programs at the Cluster range from traditional to Reggio Emilia to Montessori.

All of the classrooms use the responsive classroom technique, which promotes learning environments where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Children entering the Cluster either start at age 3 with our pre-school program at Peabody or Montessori at Wakins or with pre-K at Peabody or School Within a School at age 4. The Montessori program goes through 4th grade. Children from Peabody move to the Watkins campus for 1st through 4th grades.  Stuart-Hobson , which is a Smithsonian Museum Magnet program, serves 5th through 8th grades.
