Watkins Arts Integration Partner Wins Award

The Young Playwrights’ Theater (YPT), a Watkins arts integration partner organization, received the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award from first lady Michelle Obama this week. Each year, Watkins 4th graders participate in YPT’s In-School Playwrighting Program. Students explore playwrighting, revision, and performance with professional playwrights, actors, directors, and teaching artists. During a series of standards-based, in-class workshops students explore the mechanics of language, drama, and self-expression, culminating in the creation of their own original play.
