Digital Citizenship Campaign
The three Cluster Librarians have an important 3-part announcement regarding your children, and digital safety and common sense:
1.The Cluster School is on its way to earning Digital Citizenship Certification this year along with all other DCPS schools! The Kindergarteners and students in grades 2, 5, 6 and 7 will receive at least three lessons geared toward making good decisions while using online digital tools.
2. www.commonsensemedia.org is our partner in this endeavor and is a FABULOUS resource to answer ALL your questions about screen time, cyber bullying, privacy/safety, appropriate apps/video games/movies/TV shows and more. Check it out NOW!!
3. When you sit down to your family dinner on Sunday, March 5th, we challenge all Cluster families to make it a “DEVICE FREE DINNER” and leave phones, tablets, TVs, and any other devices in another room! Here is a long list of fun Dinner Conversation Topics. Check for updates and more info at #DeviceFreeDinner and @CHCSPTA.

So what’s the big deal?
American kids today spend over 50 hours per week of screen time and the media content that they consume and create has a profound effect on their social, emotional, cognitive and physical development.
Just as you ensure that your child gets regular physical and dental checkups, eats well, gets rest, wears a seat belt and a bike helmet, you also need to help ensure their DIGITAL safety and well-being.
