The Capitol
Hill Cluster School is committed to a developmentally appropriate curriculum
that emphasizes experiential, participatory, performance-based teaching and
learning. Instructional teams use a thematic approach that integrates subject
areas (e.g., language and literature, math and science, the arts, etc.)
Students' skills and abilities are developed sequentially as they progress
through the Cluster. The rationale for this approach is as follows:
1. It
responds to the needs of the whole child. 2. It is sensitive to a range of
learning styles. 3. It is engaging and meaningful. 4. It offers greater
success for all students. 5. It makes good use of human resources: staff,
parents, community and students. 6. It takes advantage of a unique
geographical location and its cultural institutions. 7. It helps students
apply learning to life.
Through coordinated teacher trainings and staff development, a diverse array
of special programs that supplement high-quality core course offerings, regular
enrichment activities and the shared use of facilities for
multi-level experiences, our students benefit from a DC public school
experience unlike any other in the city.
We are proud to be a community of
schools that provides a quality of education for all students that we believe will
prepare them culturally, socially, emotionally and academically for our global
society.
