Term 2 Preview
Many of us heard some big news this afternoon about the 2nd term and the plans for in-person learning for PK-5 students starting November 9th. And I’m sure this news comes with a lot of emotions. There is a lot to figure out in a short amount of time but I remain committed to sharing information and seeking to understand questions and concerns about what the next term may bring. There are three models that we are planning for as we prepare for Term 2:
In person - less than 11 students per class, one class per grade level.
CARE classes – on site virtual with adult supervision.
Continued virtual learning at home.
The DCPS ReOpen Strong website is updated with more details on these models. I think it’s important for parents to realize that MOST students will likely remain in the current, distance learning environment. The big question may be, “who might be learning at school?” The selection process is described here. Important note: any family can choose to remain in learning-from-home environment.
We are working on ensuring a safe, clean, and joyful learning environment and will update the community on how we are preparing our learning environment. I plan to publish pictures and videos to document our progress - to be transparent in order to build trust. It's important to know that many of the decisions are going to be made at the central office level and our school staff will continue to work with families to meet your needs.
Lastly, the facilities issue at Peabody is obviously a factor in the plans for Term 2. I wish I had more to share and despite a lack of information to date, I’m hopeful that we’ll all know more soon.
I encourage families to join tomorrow’s Public Info Session at 5:30. RSVP here.
Our LSAT meeting will go on as planned tomorrow night at 6pm. We will make minor adjustments to the agenda to speak on this news but neither principal will have significant details to share on the recent developments. Access to LSAT Meeting, 6pm Oct 6. Meeting ID: 965 0087 6912 Passcode: 1F1CBr
