ABOUT

Watkins provides a challenging and engaging learning environment for our first through fifth-grade students. Building on the strong foundation laid at Peabody, the school develops well-rounded students who work collaboratively and recognize their role as members of a larger community. The curriculum focuses on critical thinking skills and conceptual math, and teachers emphasize the application of numeracy and literacy to real-world situations. Teachers use multiple methods to teach each skill and encourage students to explain and discuss their approach to solving problems. Five special subjects – art, music, library, Spanish and physical education – reinforce and enhance the academic curriculum.

VISION

The Peabody and Watkins community holds a common belief in ALL students. As an inclusive school we will strive to develop open-minded learners who preserve and demonstrate social-emotional and academic abilities. Our students will be prepared to compete globally and be successful in college, career and life.

SCHEDULE

The instructional day begins at 8:45am (doors open to students at 8:10am). Students can have breakfast, engage in morning clubs, or wait for class to start at 8:45am. If students arrive after 9:00am, they must stop at the main office to sign is as tardy. They are still welcome to have breakfast. School dismissal begins at 3:15pm.

All students have a 30 minute lunch and 20 minute recess period every day. All students also go to specials (PE, Spanish, Art, and Music) at least once per week. There are two PE classes per week. Students participate in Library class once every two weeks, and they attend FoodPrints each month!
